Society has been formed within the last two years for the purpose
of trying to diminish the deaths from this terrible disease, and
several districts have had instructions printed in a pamphlet form
and distributed amongst consumptive patients through their
Medical attendants. A similar thing was carried out by this
Board in 1894, when 50 pamphlets were sent to each medical
practitioner in the district, requesting them to five them to those
persons where they considered it would be beneficial. The
medical men were informed that further copies could be had if
they required them, but no one applied for a second lot.
78 deaths were due to old age. This corresponds to a
death rate of 13 per 1,000 of the population.
37 deaths were those of persons found drowned.
