The number of visits paid to Home Workers'
dwellings was 849. The number of premises found
to be in an insanitary condition was 107, or 24.1 per
cent. of the 445 premises inspected. Notices were
served in 144 cases, while 31 other premises were
under notice arising from other visits, and a verbal
intimation was given in 16 further cases.
Difficulty is still experienced in getting some
employers promptly and accurately to send in copies
of their list of outworkers, but no legal proceedings
were taken in the matter during the year.
It may be of interest to mention that some of the
homeworkers resident in Bethnal Green are employed
by firms whose place of business is as far away as
Croydon and Epsom, and local firms have sent in
lists containing outworkers resident in Bexley,
Hornchurch, Laindon, Rochford, Romford, Southendon-Sea
and Welling.
