A summons against a milk seller for selling milk
from a vehicle and receptacle not properly inscribed
with his name and address resulted in the vendor
being ordered to pay £l 3s. 0d. costs.
Some careless or unscrupulous milk traders are
occasionally found filling bottles in the street and
perhaps sealing them with discs taken from their
pocket—a practice both contrary to the Milk and
Dairies Order and to the principles of hygiene. Two
milk vendors were summoned for the offence, being
ordered by the magistrate to pay costs amounting
to 2s. and £l 3s. 0d. respectively.
Milk (Special Designations) Order.
11 Dairymen were licensed to sell " Grade A
(Tuberculin Tested) " Milk, 1 for the sale of " Certified
" Milk, 2 for the sale of " Grade A" Milk and 10
for the sale of " Pasteurised " Milk, while supplementary
licenses to sell " Certified " Milk in the
Borough from premises in Hackney and Stepney
and others to sell " Grade A (Tuberculin Tested),"
" Grade A " and " Pasteurised " Milk in the Borough
from premises in Hackney, Finsbury, Stepney,
Poplar and Kensington were also granted during the
year.
During the year, the revised order came into
operation, reducing the number of recognised grades
and laying down a simplified bacteriological standard
for these milks.
School Milk Scheme.
The scheme for the provision to school children
at a reduced price of one-third of a pint of milk
each school day was continued during the year.
Pasteurised milk is being supplied to the schools
in the borough and the supply is tested from time to
time as to its composition and bacterial standard.
